peer pressure
I just read something..
"Peer pressure.. is more the internal pressure of feeling like a loser for being scared and wondering if it can really be that bad if your friends are all doing it."
How true. Yet how often we blame it on other people. Another example of the fundamental attribution error, attributing our faults to external pressures of the environment, without thinking whether we could be at fault too. Too often we don't take responsibility for whatever we do, preferring to blame it on other people or things.
Getting bad grades? The exam paper was difficult.. My teacher hates me.. My group members sucked so I didn't do well.. I hate my course.. How about.. Maybe I didn't study hard enough.. Perhaps I didn't put in enough effort.. But, we just react that way instinctively, and yes, I'm guilty of it too. But it's just something to think about, the next time we push the blame to something, we should think about whether any of the blame falls on us too.
