shitty drivers
Bad drivers annoy the hell out of me. Especially inconsiderate ones, they're worse than the snails. Today I was driving past CJC into the PIE, and there were a lot of cars on that road. So you know for merging lanes, we're supposed to do it alternate cars, but the 2 taxis behind me refused to let me go and kept squeezing me to get in front of me. I mean sure, being 1 car in front is really going to make such a difference. So no choice, in order to prevent my car from being scratched, I had to give way. I horned and horned and flashed my lights a few times, but no use.
But then another car tried to get in front of me and I got pissed off so I just chionged forward, and since he didn't want his precious BMW/Merc to be scratched, he had to slow down. I mean seriously, did they expect me to let all of them go and wait there forever!?
Then as I was driving along Stevens Road, two cars decided to signal to come into my lane. It was already jammed, but they thought that signalling meant they could just cut into my lane. And so that's what they did. They signalled and immediately turned their steering wheel so their car was half in my lane. What could I do but jam brake and just let them go? If I didn't stop, I would crash into their car and yes it would be my fault.
On the way home, a bus kept trying to bully me by squeezing me in my lane, the bus driver kept cutting into my lane, taking up half of his lane and half of mine so I couldn't move in front of him. ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Can drivers get any more inconsiderate!?
Then at dinner, papa told me that drivers under 26 have to pay more insurance don't know whatever it's called. I told him that the insurance companies were just full of bullshit, even though he says they are backed by scientific study. But from a young female driver's perspective, it's the middle-aged male drivers with flashy cars and taxi drivers that are the ones who should pay more for insurance, because they're the ones causing all the accidents.
They think they're so cool, so they squeeze into the lanes of younger drivers, who are naturally more cautious. They do this so last minute that the more inexperienced drivers panic and do not have enough time to slow down, and hence they hit the cars in front of them. By the law, the one behind is at fault, but when we look at the cause of the accident, is it really their fault? Take all of the incidents today. If there wasn't already a jam, I would have caused 3 accidents, none of which would have been really my fault. Damn it. I hate lousy stupid inconsiderate drivers. They have absolutely no sense of road courtesy and should be equipped with bicycles instead.
But for every 10 shitty drivers, there will be one saving grace.. And today there was one very very nice driver that just barely saved the reputation of Singapore drivers. On the way to Stevens Road, we have to go on a stretch of the PIE. The PIE was really jammed, traffic was crawling. So it was difficult for the drivers to cut into the PIE. However, there was a car that stopped and let all the cars filter out. If that's not road courtesy, I don't know what is. And I don't know why more drivers can't be like that. Will giving way really kill us? Does squeezing into the lane in front of one other car really help us get home faster?
Ok, I know this entry is a little contradicting, because I'm complaining about drivers not giving way, yet I don't want to give way to those who cut in front of me. Well, it's not so much about giving way, but about some patience and basic road courtesy. Just a little bit of kindness on the roads can reduce accidents and make your fellow drivers much happier people. If you have the patience to read until here, you have the potential to be a patient driver. Please exploit your potential.
