drömmar
Today I heard a talkshow on radio, where this guy was asking his guests what were their dreams. One guy said he wanted a house by the sea, a wine and cheese restaurant, and to retire early and have lots of money, and he didn't want to be in the city. Another girl said she wanted to be a tai-tai that can dress nicely, wake up at 10am to do her hair and makeup, drive a Jaguar, go for high-tea, and be a Christian missionary and contribute to society. The last guest mainly just dished out advice to her fellow guests. The last guest (whom I dislike based on what she said on radio), said that as we get older, our dreams get smaller.

Sometimes I wonder whether the dreams we tell people are our real dreams, or are they simply what we think other people want to hear. Maybe we are afraid of what people will think of us, so the dreams we tell them we have are not the ones that are within our heart. As for the comment on dreams getting smaller, I don't think so. I think it's either our dreams become more realistic, or more jaded, or that we have learnt to hush the voice inside us so we can no longer hear what our desires are telling us, which is I guess related to the first reason.

My dreams.. Well, there are realistic ones, and ones I know I probably will never achieve.. I wanted to work in NASA, or be an astronaut, because I think space is so fascinating.. It holds all the secrets of earth and of life.. I also wanted to be an archaeologist, to investigate and discover the cultures, habits and lifestyles of the civilisations before us.. It holds all the secrets of the people before us, our evolution. Ha, I just realised my two unattainable dreams have to do with uncovering secrets.. Maybe I should go be a CIA spy or something.. Or a Nancy Drew..

Whatever it is, if we want to attain a big goal, we have to dream even bigger. Dreams aren't useless, they're what life is made of. The very molecules of life are split into 3 parts.. our desires, our aspirations and our actions. Picture it. Can't you just see a life unfolding before your eyes, travelling into a possible future?

Look at me, you would never expect to see
Just me, someone so ordinary
But in my heart I'm floating above on the wings of a butterfly
Carrying my hopes and my desires
Scattering on earth the fairy dust dreams are made of
Not so ordinary girl
I'm part of the splendours of a beautiful world
